TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (MNA) – An Italian Foreign Ministry official says that his country shares common views with Iran in the campaign against extremism and terrorism.
Sandro De Bernardin, the Italian Foreign Ministry director for political and security affairs, made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abollahian in Tehran on Tuesday.

Extremism does not just pose a threat to the Middle East, rather it will put other parts of the world in danger if it is not brought under control and it is due to this reason that Italy believes military solution in Syria does not guarantee peace and that a political solution must be found to the crisis, Sandro De Bernardin stated.

For his part, the Iranian deputy foreign minister said since the conflict started in Syria the Islamic Republic warned that the arming of terrorists in the country is a “strategic mistake”.

He said the world has realized that there is no military solution to regional conflicts especially the civil war in Syria.

“From the beginning we insisted that the people and government of Syria need international support in the fight against terrorism and extremism and realization of reforms (in the country),” the veteran diplomat noted.

He added some countries should put an end to the dispatch of militants to Syria and stop sending arms to terrorists.
