TEHRAN, Dec. 4 (MNA) – Iran U-18 football team has been drawn in Group A of Valentin Granatkin Memorial along with Belarus, Slovakia and Finland.
The competitions, known as “Small World Cup”, will take place at the Peterburgsky SCC in Saint-Petersburg, Russia from January 3 to14. A total of 16 teams have been divided into four groups of four.
Group B consists of Russia, Slovenia, Estonia, and Moldavia. In Group C Japan has been drawn with Czech Republic, Greece and Azerbaijan. Saint-Petersburg is in Group D along with Ukraine, Turkey and Latvia.
The International youth football tournament was initiated by the FIFA President Joao Havelange for the first time in 1981 in Moscow. Valentin Granatkin was the FIFA first vice-president and passed away on November 2, 1979.
Granatkin tournament always is a place of discoveries. Memorial was a first loud word from the future stars of world football – Andreas Moeller, Oliver Bierhoff, Kirsten Janker, Marcel Desai, Igor Kolyvanov and Alexandr Mostovoy.
