Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov says diplomatic relations between Moscow and Tehran stand at an “excellent” level.
In a meeting with new Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei on Monday, Morgulov pointed to the existing areas of cooperation and issues of common interests between Russia and Iran, calling for further expansion of ties in various spheres.
He also touched upon Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s upcoming visit to Tehran, and stressed that the trip is of paramount importance to Russia.
Morgulov expressed hope that the visit would help enhance the cooperation between the two countries.
On Monday, The Voice of Russia radio network cited Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that "Lavrov will visit Tehran on December 11."
He is expected to discuss bilateral relations as well as major regional and international issues with senior Iranian officials.
Sanaei, for his part, praised the high level of Iran-Russia political relations, urging stronger economic and trade ties between the two countries.
The Iranian ambassador hoped that Tehran-Moscow relations would further develop in diverse areas of politics, trade and culture.
