Khuzestan province representatives resign in Parliament

10 Dec 2013 - 14:29

AHVAZ, Dec. 10 (MNA) – The deputy head of fraction of Khuzestan province representatives in Parliament has said 18 representatives of Khuzestan province have resigned.
Abdullah Tamimi told Mehr News correspondent in Khuzestan that according to an agreement with the Cabinet, the government should have allocated a special budget to address the deprivations and difficulties of the province’s cities.

“However, the government has not lived to its promise in the budget draft of the next year,” he said.

“Since Rouhani assumed presidency, the new cabinet and Mr. President have not reacted acceptably to the suspension of the project of water transfer from Karoon River to other provinces, which has devastating effect on the agriculture of the region,” he said.

“The cabinet had promised to suspend the project, which we believe is betrayal of the people’s rights in Khuzestan province,” he said.

Tamimi, who represents Shadegan in the Parliament, emphasized that due to these reasons, all 18 representatives of Khuzestan province had delivered their resignation to the Parliament Board.

“So that they could show that they are united in pursuing the rights and interests of their constituencies in the province, and in this way, they would tolerate no heedlessness.”

“During the years of past governments, the rights of people in Khuzestan province had been systematically ignored, and now time has come when the authorities address seriously the peoples’ demands including alleviating the effect of deprivations, suspension of water drainage from Karoon River, and environmental threats such as acid rain and air pollution,” Tamimi asserted.
