Zarif plans Saudi Arabia visit: Iranian diplomat

17 Dec 2013 - 22:07

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif plans to pay a visit to Saudi Arabia in line with Tehran’s policy to promote ties with its neighboring countries, a senior Iranian diplomat says.
The visit will take place at the earliest opportunity after an opening arises in Zarif’s schedule and the necessary itinerary plans are arranged, said Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a Tuesday interview with IRNA on the sidelines of his visit to Baghdad.

Iran believes that dialogue between Tehran and Riyadh will play a key role in resolving regional crises, the Iranian diplomat said.

Amir-Abdollahian called on the Saudi government to assume a more active role in resolving the regional issues and underscored Tehran’s support for any positive and constructive role by Riyadh in settling the regional issues and maintaining security and stability in Iraq.

In early December, Zarif visited Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates in line with Tehran’s doctrine of expanding relations with its Persian Gulf neighbors.
