Islamabad, Jan 9, IRNA - At least 10 militants and three security officials were killed when a check post in South Waziristan Tribal Agency came under attack, army said.
Militants attacked the check post around 8:00 pm and “was repulsed inflicting heavy casualties to the militants” said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.
The exchange of fire ‘reportedly’ initiated by the militants, killed three officials.
South Waziristan is one of the country?s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts which Washington considers a major hub of Taliban and al-Qaida militants plotting attacks on the West and in Afghanistan.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan insurgent group has led a bloody campaign against the Pakistani state in recent years, carrying out hundreds of attacks on security forces and government targets, mainly in the northwest.
