Iranian films enter Rotterdam film festival’s line up

25 Jan 2014 - 10:26

Three Iranian feature length films have been selected to represent the country’s cinema at the 43rd Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands.

Shahram Mokri’s acclaimed screen production Fish and Catis one of the selected films that will compete at this year’s Dutch international festival.

The movie recently garnered the Best Film Award at the 2013 Lisbon and Estoril Film Festival (LEFFEST) in Portugal.

The movie also won the Special Orizzonti Award for Innovative Content at the 70th edition of Venice International Film Festival.

Fish and Cat  has been nominated for Best Director Award at the seventh Asia Pacific Screen Awards that will take place in Brisbane, Australia.

From Tehran to Heaven directed by Abolfazl Saffari, is also scheduled to be screened on January 25, 27 and 31 at the festival’s main hall.

The 75-minute film chronicles a pregnant woman’s desperate search for her husband within a surreally disorganized city. The woman named Ghazal returns from a sonogram to find her husband Farhad missing and her apartment ransacked. Kidnapped and beaten, she is threatened with further violence in finding her husband.

Mohammad Rasoulof’s 2013 created drama Manuscripts Don't Burn is another Iranian representative at this year’s Rotterdom film festival.

Rotterdam annual festival offers a window to the world, presenting a quirky and world-famous selection of recent new films and film-related visual arts.

The festival in its last year’s edition dedicated a particular section to Iranian films titled ‘Modern Iranian Cinema.’

This year’s Rotterdam International Film Festival is programmed to take place from January 22 through February 2, 2014.
