Traders welcome purchase of 1,000MW Iran electricity

26 Jan 2014 - 22:37

Islamabad, Jan 26, IRNA - Business community of eastern Punjab province welcomes the government initiative to get 1,000 megawatt (MW) electricity from Iran and hoped the project would be completed within shortest possible time, a media report said on Sunday.
Daily ’Business Recorder’ reported that traders urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif not to compromise on this mega project as 1,000MW electricity would give a new lifeline to the industrial sector which is in deep trouble due to energy shortage.

President of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Khawaja Muhammad Usman said the severest-ever shortage of electricity in the country calls for extraordinary measures on war footing and the people sitting at the helm of affairs should gear up their efforts for the early completion of the project.

He said the government should also take the business community on board on this project, as the energy shortage is the severest and industrialists are planning to shift their operations to other countries. He said the electricity is basic raw material of the industrial sector and due to its acute shortage the industrial production is at its lowest level.
