TEHRAN (ISNA)- Polish Foreign Minister Rados?aw Sikorski plans to visit Tehran next month to explore opportunities for economic cooperation with Iran.
In a meeting with Javad Jahangirzadeh, deputy head of Iranian (Majlis) Parliament Research Center (MRC), President of Poland Center for International Relations Malgorzata Bonikowska said Sikorski’s scheduled visit is of great significance for Poland and other European Union members.
He added that Polish foreign minister’s visit will help develop a greater understanding of Iran and improve economic relations with the country.
Bonikowska, who is also an EU expert, said new conditions have been created for better relations between Iran and Poland.
For his part, Jahangiri expressed hope that further cooperation between MRC and Polish think tanks would pave the way for more parliamentary relations between Iran and Poland.
Meanwhile, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt will separately pay an official visit to Iran within the next two months.
An eight-member team from the European Parliament (EP) also visited Iran last December. The team was led by Tarja Cronberg, who sits on the EP Foreign Affairs Committee.
Since the election of President Hassan Rouhani last June and particularly since Iran and world powers reached a nuclear deal, European countries have shown willingness to improve relations with Iran.
On January 20, the EU Council suspended part of its sanctions against Iran based on the Geneva nuclear deal between Tehran and the Sextet of world powers – the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China and Germany - which was signed last November.
