US must help implement Geneva nuclear deal: Iran MP

1 Apr 2015 - 23:33

An Iranian lawmaker says the 'US must adjust its behaviour' to help with the implementation of the Geneva deal between Iran and the Sextet of world powers.
“After [reaching] the Geneva agreement, Iran expects members of the P5+1 group to pave the way for the implementation of [this agreement] through goodwill and the improvement of ties,” said spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Hossein Naqavi Hosseini on Saturday.
“They should not take measures or make remarks which will halt the implementation of the Geneva deal,” he added.
He described certain remarks by US officials as “irresponsible” and against the Geneva deal and said such statements cast doubt on US goodwill.

The Iranian lawmaker pointed to the US officials’ threats of military action against Iran and said such rhetoric could hamper efforts to carry out the nuclear deal with Iran.

The Iranian lawmaker made the remarks in reaction to US Secretary of State John Kerry’s renewed threat of military action and allegations made by top US nuclear negotiator with Iran Wendy Sherman against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iran and the six major world powers – the United States, Russia, China, France, the UK, and Germany – signed a nuclear deal in Geneva, Switzerland, last November to pave the way for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old standoff over Tehran’s nuclear energy program. The deal was put into effect on January 20. Negotiations would continue for a final comprehensive deal.
