Iranian researchers build cancer-carrying nano-drug

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian researchers at Lorestan University, western Iran, have produced biodegradable hyperb-ranched polymers which are compatible with the human body.
The polymers produced by the method of condensation polymerization from acid citric monomers and glycerol, can be used effectively as nano-drugs for cancer treatment.

Acid citric as a polymer compatible with biologic environments includes several inner holes and is capable of carrying drugs. Also existence of functional groups on the surface of the polymer causes release of the drug towards the intended receiver. The polymers can be used well in the place of biologic molecules.

The results of the study showed that the hyper-branched polymer is economic and the dose of the anti-cancer drugs filled and capsulated with hyper-branched polymers is less than radical anti-cancer drugs, and subsequently the side effects of the anti-cancer drugs on healthy cells reduce.

The findings of the study have been recently patented in the US, and published in Journal of Applied Polymer Science.
