Iran's President Hassan Rouhani says the Iranian government is determined to improve relations with Asian countries.
In a meeting with Singaporean Minister of Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam in Tehran on Monday, Rouhani said Singapore has an important position in Asia and plays an active role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
“The Islamic Republic of Iran can connect ASEAN to ECO (Economic Cooperation Organization),” the Iranian president added.
He noted that Iran and Singapore have capacities to boost trade, commercial, financial and banking cooperation.
He said joint investment in the tourism sector can strengthen mutual cultural interaction.
“Iran and Singapore have good cooperation in international circles to support each other,” Rouhani pointed out.
The Singaporean minister, for his part, said a strong and independent Iran can play a leading role in Asia.
Singapore seeks avenues for increasing its interactions with Iran and cultural cooperation plays an important role in this regard, Shanmugam added.
