Tehran, April 20, IRNA – Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in a session on Tuesday reviewed claims by the BBC about clashes between prisoners and Iranian security forces in Evin Prison.
The British broadcaster has claimed a number of prisoners were injured in clashes which it says took place on Thursday in a section of prison where political prisoners are held.
Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, rapporteur of the Majlis Commission, said that Gholam-Hossein Esmaeili, head of the State Prisons and Security and Corrective Measures Organization, who had attended the session, said a group of inspectors from his organization made a prescheduled inspection of the prison on Thursday.
When the inspectors asked the prisoners to go out of their cells, prisoners in two cells refused to do so, Esmaeili said.
He said that the inspectors forced the prisoners out of their cells. But he noted that no one was beaten or injured in the incident.
He said that the families of the prisoners can visit their family members in the prison to make sure that they are in complete health.
