TEHRAN (FNA)- Intelligence Minister Seyed Mahmoud Alawi underlined his forces' 24-hour efforts to clarify the fate of two abducted Iranian nationals, border guard Jamshid Danayeefar and fencing champion Hamed Sedaqati, as soon as possible.
In an interview with reporters on Monday, Alawi said that Iranian intelligence forces are ready to expand their operations to realize the fate of both Danayeefar and Sedaqati.
On Sunday, an Iranian parliamentarian said that the countries' security forces are seriously pursuing the fate of Sedaqati who was abducted in Southeastern Iran last week, adding that the champion has most likely been abducted by local outlaws.
"The kidnappers have most probably been outlaws," Member of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Esmayeel Kosari said on Sunday.
Sedaqati and one of his friends were abducted in the Southeastern Sistan and Balouchestan province.
"The two have been abducted on Khaash-Iranshahr road," a provincial official said.
Khaash Governor Mohammad Akbar Chakerzehi confirmed the report on the abduction, but said the identity of the abductors and those who have been kidnapped are not clear yet.
"Investigations are already underway into the incident," he added.
The Iranian Fencing Federation President, Fazlollah Baqerzadeh, confirmed the report on the abduction of Sedaqati, saying that his federation is pursuing the case through law-enforcement officials.
Sedaqati and two of his friends were driving on the road to the provincial capital city of Zahedan when they came under attack by unknown assailants.
Other reports named the second abductee as Mehdi Hosseini, a lawyer.
"The third person has been killed by the kidnappers," officials added. Media reports named the third man as Mohammad Ali Qaffari, who has been killed by a shot in the head.
Hamed Sedaqati won the 3rd place in Asian championship in 2006.
Sedaqati's sister confirmed his abduction, but said the unknown assailants have not taken his watch, laptop computer, mobile phone and other previous objects in the car.
Five Iranian border guards were abducted in Jakigour region of Iran’s Sistan and Balouchestan Province on February 6 and taken to Pakistani territory. Four of them were freed in early April. A week before that, Jeish Al-Adl claimed that it had killed Danayeefar. Yet, Iranian officials have repeatedly denied the claim about Danayeefar, saying they are waiting for convincing proof.
