The Chinese Foreign Ministry says Beijing seeks to play a “constructive” role in the ongoing negotiations between Iran and six world powers over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
“We would like to maintain close communications with all related parties and play a constructive role in the all-round negotiation process,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said during a news conference on Monday.

The Chinese official called on all sides involved in the nuclear talks to settle their differences “in a flexible and pragmatic attitude” as the discussions have entered a “more complicated and sensitive” phase.
“China maintains [that] the direct engagement between six countries and Iran will help deepen mutual understanding and promote negotiation process,” Hua added.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - China, Russia, France, Britain and the United States - plus Germany, have been discussing ways to resolve their differences and start drafting a final deal aimed at ending the West’s dispute with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.

Hua’s remarks come as Iran and its negotiating partners are preparing to hold a new round of nuclear talks in the Austrian capital, Vienna, from June 16 to 20.

Ahead of the upcoming Vienna negotiations, representatives from Iran and the United States kicked off two days of nuclear discussions in the Swiss city of Geneva on Monday afternoon.

Iranian officials will sit down with Russian diplomats in the Italian capital, Rome, on June 11-12, and are also likely to meet French and German negotiators separately before June 16.
