Faraji-Dana named as presidential advisor for scientific, educational affairs
Tehran, Aug 20, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani in a decree, issued on Wednesday, appointed Reza Faraji-Dana as his advisor for scientific and educational affairs.
In his decree, President Rouhani appreciated Faraji-Dana for his unsparing endeavors during his tenure as minister of science, research and technology.
Faraji-Dana failed on Wednesday to win a vote of confidence by Iranian MPs.

Faraji-Dana, 53, was impeached after a number of lawmakers prepared a petition accusing him of impeding scientific progress of the country with his policies.

Out of the 270 lawmakers present in the voting session, 145 legislators voted against Faraji-Dana and 110 in his favor while 115 abstained.

Born in 1960 in the holy city of Qom, Faraji-Dana is a politician who served as chancellor of the University of Tehran and former president of Iranian branch of the New York-based Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

He studied electrical engineering at the University of Tehran, and at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo in 1993. He is currently a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Tehran.

On October 27, 2013, Majlis gave a vote of confidence to Faraji-Dana after the lawmakers refused to approve the qualifications of Rouhanis initial nominee for the position, Jafar Mili-Monfared.

First Vice-President Es-haq Jahangiri, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Oil Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi and Governor of Central Bank of Iran Valiollah Seif attended the impeachment session which was widely covered by a large number of journalists, photographers and cameramen.
