TEHRAN (Tasnim) A senior Iranian commander warned about keeping high hopes on the outcome of nuclear talks with the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany), saying that world powers are trying to undermine Irans influence.
We should not keep our hopes high on the outcomes of these talks, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri reiterated on Wednesday on the sidelines of a congress here in Tehran, and stressed that the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 and E3+3) and those standing against Iran are trying to undermine Irans sources of power, including its economic development.
The senior commander, however, said that the Iranian negotiators should continue nuclear talks within the framework of the Iranian ruling system's interest.
His comments came as new round of negotiations between Iran and world powers on Irans civilian atomic program held in Geneva on Wednesday.
This is the first round of talks after the parties decided to extend for more 7 months a self-imposed deadline for signing a comprehensive agreement on Tehrans peaceful nuclear work.
Iran and the Group 5+1 wrapped up a week of intensive nuclear talks in Vienna on November 24 without reaching the long-awaited deal.
