3 Jan 2015 - 14:28

Police have arrested a 27-year-old woman in Kuala Lumpur who married North African IS fighter over Skype two weeks ago and was going to join him in Syria.

MOSCOW, January 3 (Sputnik) – Police have arrested a 27-year-old woman in Kuala Lumpur who married a member of the Islamic State (IS) radical group over Skype two weeks ago, The Straits Times reported Saturday.
"We believe that she was first attracted to IS after watching its propaganda video on YouTube in November," Malaysian Police Inspector-General Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said as quoted by The Straits Times Saturday.

"She then got to know the North African fighter and eventually married him. He managed to persuade her to join him in Syria," the inspector-general added.
IS, a radical Sunni group, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), has taken control of vast areas in Syria and Iraq, proclaiming the establishment of an Islamic caliphate on the territories it had ceased.
IS extremists are known for their brutal tactics, such as public crucifixions and beheadings of captured prisoners, including European journalists. The radical Sunni group has released several videos of such executions on the Internet.

Some 60 nations have joined an international coalition created by the United States in September, 2014, with the aim of eradicating IS militants. The coalition has been launching airstrikes against IS targets in Iraq and Syria.
