Iran, Iraq to step up medical cooperation

TEHRAN, Jan. 05 (MNA) In a Sunday meeting between Irans minister of labor and Iraqi minister of health, the two sides announced promotion of ties in fields of insurance, treatment and medicine.
On the sidelines of his joint meeting with Iraqi Minister of Health Adeelah Humood, Irans Minister of Labor, Cooperatives and Welfare Ali Rabiei deemed Irans pharmaceutical products as one of Iraqs areas of interest, adding that the Islamic Republic would supply a part of their neighboring countrys pharmaceutical needs.


He also expressed Irans readiness for admitting Iraqi patients in the countrys hospitals, adding that construction of a pharmaceutical factory was also on the agenda.


Adeelah Humood, for her part, referred to several MoUs signed with Iranian officials in recent years and expressed hope that quicker steps would be taken for the implementation of these agreements.


While urging the Islamic Republic to provide necessary initial steps for investment in construction of a pharmaceutical factory in Iraq as soon as possible, she expressed her countrys readiness to import pharmaceuticals and medical equipment from Iran.


Iraq enjoys strong ties with Iran in commerce, with the Islamic Republic playing an important role in the Iraqi reconstruction. The volume of trade between Iran and Iraq reached $12 billion in 2013.
