Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu says Iran and Russia plan to sign an agreement on military cooperation to fight together against challenges and threats in the region.
TEHRAN, January 20 (Sputnik) – Iran and Russia plan on signing an agreement on military-technical cooperation and to work together to fight against threats and challenges in the region, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.
“We are in favor of long-term and multi-level cooperation with Iran and welcome the Iranian leadership’s attempts to expanding its ties with Russia, including in military defense,” Shoigu said during talks with Iranian Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Minister Hossein Dehghan in the country’s capital of Tehran.
“We have common challenges and threats in the region that we can oppose only if we communicate,” Shoigu added.
Shoigu said that “an important step in this direction will be the signing of an Iranian-Russian agreement on military cooperation.”
