Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu says Iran and Russia plan to sign an agreement on military cooperation to fight together against challenges and threats in the region.
TEHRAN, January 20 (Sputnik) Iran and Russia plan onsigning an agreement onmilitary-technical cooperation and towork together tofight againstthreats and challenges inthe region, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.
We are infavor oflong-term and multi-level cooperation withIran and welcome the Iranian leaderships attempts toexpanding its ties withRussia, including inmilitary defense, Shoigu said duringtalks withIranian Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Minister Hossein Dehghan inthe countrys capital ofTehran.
We have common challenges and threats inthe region that we can oppose only if we communicate, Shoigu added.
Shoigu said that an important step inthis direction will be the signing ofan Iranian-Russian agreement onmilitary cooperation.
