TEHRAN (Tasnim) - President of the Senate of Belgium Christine Defraigne said her country is on the same wavelength with Iran when it comes to establishment of a democratic government in Syria.
Brussels shares views with Tehran on formation of a new democratic government in Syria, Defraigne said in a joint press conference with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, in Tehran, adding that there is still a long way to go.
She also emphasized the necessity for concerted international military action against the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group that has invaded Syria.
Urging efforts to stimulate the process of civil reconstruction in Syria for establishment of a new democratic government, Defraigne stressed that foreign powers should set aside selfish rivalries and care about the Syrian nation.
She further called for cooperation between Iran and Belgium in the fight against terrorism through constant exchange of information.
Heading a high-ranking parliamentary delegation, Defraigne arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, and is going to hold meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Chairman of Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, and a number of other officials.
