Next Astana meeting on Syrian settlement may occur Mid-February
ASTANA (Sputnik) The next roundof negotiations onSyrian peace settlement may take place inAstana inthe middle ofFebruary, Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov said Tuesday.
"Of course," the minister said, when asked if the meeting would take place inAstana.
"Roughly speaking we are talking aboutthe middle ofFebruary," Abdrakhmanov said.
On Monday, Maj. Gen. Stanislav Gadzhimagomedov, the head ofthe Russian delegation atthe Astana meeting, said the talks were planned forFebruary 15-16.
The intra-Syrian peace talks were held inKazakhstan's capital ofAstana onJanuary 23-24. The talks resulted inMoscow-Tehran-Ankara agreement onestablishment ofa tripartite mechanism tomonitor the ceasefire inSyria, embroiled ina civil war since2011.
The next roundof UN-brokered negotiations onthe Syrian reconciliation is expected totake place onFebruary 20.
