May 22, The Iran Project A former Iranian lawmaker says US President Donald Trumps visit to Saudi Arabia aimed at offering the Riyadh regime a wide range of weapons deals and holding talks with the Arab leaders to spread Iranophobia.
Esmail Kowsari, former MP and Armed Forces General Staff deputy for security affairs stressed on Monday that by visiting Saudi Arabia, Donald Trump chiefly planned to impose multi-billion dollar arms sales contracts to Saudi officials.
Trump's travel to Riyadh aimed at increasing Iranophobia in Arab countries and forming a united front against the Islamic Republic , Kosari added.
The former Member of Parliament went on to say that the US president was also seeking to establish close ties between Arabic countries and Israeli regime.
On May 19, US President Donald Trump landed in Saudi Arabia on his first foreign trip which according to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson mainly aimed at getting Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations in the region to stand in unity with Israel and confront Iran.
Attending the Arabic Islamic American Summit at the King Abdulaziz Conference Center in Riyadh on May 21, US president Donald Trump made some anti-Iran accusations, saying "From Lebanon to Iraq to Yemen, Iran funds, arms and trains terrorists, militias and other extremist groups that spread destruction and chaos across the region."
He added "until the Iranian regime is willing to be a partner for peace, all nations of conscience must work together to isolate it... and pray for the day when the Iranian people have the just and righteous government they so richly deserve."
Meanwhile, in reaction, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said US President's recent anti-Tehran remarks were aimed at "milking" Saudi Arabia.
