September 18, The Iran Project - President Hassan Rouhani arrived in New Yorkon Sundaynight to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, and For the first meeting, the president participatedin a gathering of Iranian expatriates residing in the US, in New York on Sunday night.
Upon arrival at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, President Rouhani said establishing comprehensive interactions with world is among Iran's strategy.
'During the visit, we will hold meetings with heads of countries, elites, senior clerics of Islamic countries, US media and Iranians in New York,' President Rouhani said.
President Rouhani stressed that he would also hold talks with heads of the US foreign policy think thanks and scholars as well as the senior officials of the international media, meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and hold separate meetings with a number of heads of states from other participating countries.
He also expressed hope that the meetings would bring about fruitful results for Iran and would pave the way for establishing international cooperation.
Meanwhile, speaking in a meeting with the Iranian expatriates residing in the US, President Rouhani stressed that Tehran Iran will never choose to initiate breaching the historic nuclear deal, but any violator of Iranian people's rights would receive 'a due and proportionate response'.
Touching upon the landmark nuclear agreement Iran and the P5+1 powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), President Rouhani said that the Iran's nuclear deal will remain a historic agreement in the region and the world, whether the current US administration is pleased or concerned.
He described the JCPOA a multi-lateral deal, backed by the UN Security Council resolution,underlining that JCPOA is like a token for the global peace and security.
Iran has said it would work to sustain the JCPOA but has contingency plans in the event of a US withdrawal. On Sunday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned that Iran would respond to any wrong move concerning the JCPOA.
In New York, President Rouhani said whether the US is happy or worried, the JCPOA is to stay in political history as a sign of how complex international issues can be resolved via dialog.
