Tasnim � British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said his country backs efforts to protect the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Speaking at a meeting with Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi in London on Wednesday, Johnson hailed the JCPOA as an international achievement.

He further emphasized that Britain is resolved to support the nuclear deal and stressed the need for efforts to protect it.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views about the future of the JCPOA and the latest developments in the region and the world.

Speaking ahead of the meeting with the Iranian official, the British foreign secretary said, ��the UK supports the deal and stresses the importance of all parties continuing to uphold their commitments."

In a forthcoming speech, US President Donald Trump is expected to declare that the JCPOA is no longer in America�s national security interests and to decertify the multilateral agreement.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear accord in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is responsible for monitoring Iran�s nuclear activities as per the nuclear deal and should also help Iran develop its nuclear energy program.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic�s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA.
