
Colonel Mohammad Mollashahi said that border guards clashed with the drug traffickers who were possessing firearms. The were carrying the drugs into Iran, he said.
He said that while patrolling the region, border guards discovered the contraband followed by opening fire by the armed smugglers at the troops.
Police forces gave crushing response to them forcing the armed traffickers to escape from the scene and withdraw to the neighboring country, he said.
Mollashahi further noted that tanks to the efforts of the border guards, vast borders of the province have turned into an insecure place for the smugglers.
Sistan-Baluchestan province has 1,500 kilometers of land and water borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
