Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA � The Islamic Republic of Iran and Sri Lanka inked on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on expansion of bilateral economic cooperation.�

The MoU was signed in the tenth Iran-Sri Lanka Joint Economic Commission meeting.


The MoU was inked by Iran?s Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Ahmad Doost Hosseini and Sri Lankan Minister of Industries and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed various topics including banking cooperation, infrastructural projects, technological cooperation in tea packaging, making use of Iran?s free trade zones, re-export of products and transit of goods via Iran.

The two sides also called for encouraging businessmen to increase investments in free trade zones.

They also discussed other topics such as investment, energy, transportation, and scientific and cultural cooperation, Doost Hosseini said.

He expressed the hope to witness implementation of the agreements signed by the two countries.

The Sri Lankan minister, for his part, said the level of cooperation between the two sides? private sectors is not satisfactory and this should be upgraded through exchange of commercial delegations.

The 10th Iran-Sri Lankan Joint Economic Commission meeting kicked off on Tuesday with an opening speech by Iran?s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh.
