US ‘imperialist wars’ to continue under Trump, Clinton: Analyst

The next US president, be it presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump or Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, would continue waging “imperialist wars” across the world, says an American writer and political commentator.

Daniel Patrick Welch made the comment on Monday while discussing Trump’s latest remarks over the Syrian refugee crisis which is a product of a years-long conflict in the country.

The New York businessman warned Sunday that the Obama administration’s effort to step up asylum for Syrian refugees has put the United States on the verge of another large-scale terrorist attack.

Trump’s remark “points out what is wrong with this whole electoral system,” Welch said. “You have someone saying these ridiculous things which are openly racist.”

He blamed the US and Europe for the Syrian refugee crisis, saying they were “equally” wrong for adopting policies that worsened the situation.

“They are ignoring the entire problem which is imperialist wars,” he argued.

“Of course, the United States and Europe have a duty to deal with this crisis because it is of their creation and it is completely racist and protofascist, as you can see from Trump’s perspective, to them just ban them and say these are horrible people,” he explained.

Since March 2011, the United States and its regional allies, in particular Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, have been providing support to militant groups fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s government.

The years-long conflict has left more than 470,000 Syrians dead and half of the country’s population of about 23 million displaced within or beyond the Arab country’s borders.

Describing Hillary Clinton as “the supreme imperialist warrior,” Welch said that the Democratic presidential front-runner’s possible presidency would only result in more refugees.

“Of course Trump is racist and he is pandering to this racist meme, but the alternative is insane; this continuation of these unending imperial wars,” the analyst noted.

“Choosing between Trump and Clinton is like deciding suicide by poison or by blowing your brains out,” Welch added.

“Everyone outside the American bubble knows that this is a croc but they will still play along and they will still pretend they have a choice and the result would be the continuation of these imperialist wars,” he continued.

The administration of President Barack Obama has planned to take in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the fiscal year.
