Washington is trying to deter any possible alliance between Russia, Turkey and Iran on Syria: if the three countries unite their efforts against the terrorists, the jihadists will easily be defeated and the US will thereby lose its ability to destabilize the region, Iranian political analyst and former journalist Hassan Hanizadeh told Sputnik.
The US is thwarting any possible alliance betweenRussia, Turkey and Iran tofight the terrorist groups inSyria, Hassan Hanizadeh, former editor-in-chief ofthe Iranian news agency MehrNews told Sputnik.
Meanwhile, Washington is using the terrorist groups operating onthe ground inSyria asa tool todivide the countries ofthe region. Thus, the political editor added, the US is interested inkeeping relations betweenTurkey and Russia strained and instirring tensions betweenIran and Turkey.
Washington, he explained, is interested inextending its sphere ofinfluence inthe Middle East.
His comments come inreference tothe recent remarks ofTurkish Armed Forces former Chief ofStaff Ilker Basbug, who called forcooperation betweenRussia, Iran and Turkey onSyria.

We need towork together withother countries onthe Syrian issue; alone we cannot cope. We need toact together withIran and Russia, because they want toprotect the territorial integrity ofSyria Turkey urgently needs toreview its policy onSyria. It is necessary that Turkish relations withRussia get back tonormal, Ilker Basbug recently said inFrankfurt ata Symposium organized byTurkish public organizations.
The call forcooperation betweenTurkey, Iran and Russia fromsuch a high-ranking official apparently means that Turkey is gradually changing the course ofits foreign policy onSyria and other issues inthe Middle East, Hanizadeh said.
If the current leadership adheres tothe words ofthe former top officer, the political analyst added, the whole region will make a step towardsstability afterthe five years ofthe brutal war which has brought political, economic and humanitarian disasters throughoutthe Middle East.
Thus the cooperation betweenTurkey, Russia and Iran is crucial forthe settlement ofthe Syrian crisis and it will provide a solid base forthe defeat ofterrorists groups such asDaesh, the Al-Nusra Front, Jaysh al-Islam, and Fatah al-Islam.
Iran, Russia and Turkey have all the potential diplomatic and military toneutralize the terrorists. However the difference inpositions onSyria betweenthe major military circles inTurkey and the countrys leading government remains the stumbling block forthe possible alliance.
