Israel seeks to get US to attack Iran: Journalist

The executive director of an American think tank specializing in the Middle East affairs says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to convince the United States to attack Iran.
The remarks by Alison Weir, journalist and executive director ofIf Americans Knew, in a Wednesday interview with Press TV came in reaction to Netanyahus war rhetoric against Iran at the United Nations on Tuesday.
This is typical of Mr. Netanyahu and of the Israeli government in general. They consistently want to get the world and specially my country, the United States, to attack Iran, to damage Iran financially and economically, Weir said.
He added that the Israel lobby in the United States is still very powerful, adding that the US media are largely dominated by an Israeli-centric reporting.
Weir noted that Israel wields much clout with the US government although the majority of the Americans are truthfully very tired of these wars that Israel pushes us into in the Middle East, adding, I think Americans are starting to wake up to the power of this lobby.
Netanyahu, addressing the United Nations General Assembly session on Tuesday, threatened unilateral military action against Iran to dismantle the Islamic Republics civilian nuclear facilities.

He repeated his baseless accusation that Tehran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons, saying, Iran wants to be in a position to rush forward to build nuclear bombs before the international community can detect it and much less prevent it."

The US, Israel, and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Tehran has categorically rejected the allegation, arguing that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Certainly the fact that Iran is a party to the Non-Proliferation Treaty is a very positive reality whereas Israel has not signed that treaty and has been in violation of even US laws in the way it has used chemical weapons in the past and cluster bombs, said Weir.
