Iran-China national libraries sign MoU

Tehran, June 16, IRNA - The National Library of China and National Library and Archives of Iran signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Sunday.
The MoU was signed by Fariborz Khosravi, deputy head of Irans National Library and his Chinese counterpart Chen Lee, said ?Iran Daily? published Monday.
Speaking in the meeting, Khosravi said the two great nations of Iran and China are the inheritors of two great civilizations which contributed a lot to the promotion of writing and progress of using papers.

He noted Prophet Muhammad?s (PBUH) famous saying in which he mentions China as one of the cradles of science and knowledge and underlines the importance of knowledge in Islam.

Khosravi said the MoU can bolster mutual cultural cooperation which will benefit the two countries.

Chen Lee, for his part, expressed happiness on his visit to the Iranian National Library, saying many Iranian cultural symbols have entered Chinese culture.

For a long time, Muslims and Persian speakers used to reside in Xinjiang.

There are close to 2,000 Persian reference works and books in Chinas National Library, he noted hoping the figure would increase.

The signing of the five-year MoU contains six articles through which both countries aim to share experience and expertise in the field and expand cooperation to exchange documents, library material as well as holding workshops, seminars and exhibitions.
