Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and UK Foreign Secretary William Hague have discussed the ongoing crisis in Iraq.
In a phone conversation on Monday, the two top diplomats discussed the latest developments in Iraq, where Takfiri militants have launched deadly attacks in the northern part of the country.
Also in a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the need to combat terrorism and violence, condemning the heinous crimes, such as the slaughter of innocent people, committed in Iraq.
President Rouhani said Tehran spares no effort on both regional and international levels to confront terrorism, and it will not allow sponsors of terrorists to undermine the security and stability of Iraq through exporting terrorism to the country.
Takfiri militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have recently been carrying out acts of terror in Iraq, taking over a number of cities and committing atrocities against the people. The ISIL militants have raided several towns on a road to the capital, Baghdad, after they took control of Mosul, some 400 kilometers northwest of Baghdad, about a week ago.
