WPC opens in Russia
Tehran, June 17, IRNA - The World Petroleum Congress started in Russia amid messages on the unfairness of energy sanctions, a senior Iranian oil official said on Tuesday.
?The unfairness of sanctions was affirmed in the messages read out on the first day of the World Petroleum Congress? (WPC), SHANA quoted Mohammad-Ali Emadi, director of research and technology at National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) as saying.
Even representatives of US to the WPC stressed that sanctions harm world energy security and pose challenge to the role of energy as a sector effective in establishing social justice and respecting human rights in the world, Emadi said.

He added that participants stressed the need for stability in the energy market and the end of the crises.

The WPC started on June 15 and will work until June 19.

Held every three years, WPC is a key event in the global petroleum calendar, bringing together industry leadership and government representatives to discuss applications and transfer of latest technology and expertise.

The conference seeks new avenues that would help lead to business growth and to foster responsible management of the world?s energy resources.

Themed ?Responsibly Energizing a Growing World?, this year?s WPC is likely to generate debate on ways to meet future energy demands for a growing population in a sustainable and socially responsible manner through wise investments, use of skilled human resources, cutting-edge technologies and ethical business practices.

The Moscow meet is expected to attract 5,000 delegates, 600 speakers and over 500 ministers and chief executives of top global oil players who will gather to discuss and exchange ideas on how to ensure that the petroleum industry continues to galvanize world development and growth in a responsible way.
