Gasoline imports, Economical

 Gasoline imports, Economical
TEHRAN June 17 (Shana)--A senior Iranian oil official has said that importing gasoline is cost-effective for the country due to high production costs.
Mohsen Qamsari, director for international affairs of National Iranian Oil Company, said gasoline imports are favored as long as gasoline production projects are not operational.

Gasoline is a strategic commodity in the country and self-sufficiency in its production is of high significance, he said.

Since some products are made in the country at exorbitant costs while their imports could be done at much lower costs, self-sufficiency is not necessarily a good option because it may be not economical, he added.

Experts say construction of large-sized refineries in Iran would not be economical and they recommend mini-refineries.
Petroleum Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh recently ordered the construction of eight gas condensate refineries.
