ISlL threats to backfire on ME backers: Rafsanjani

A senior Iranian official has warned that the threats posed by the extremist groups operating in the Middle East will later boomerang on their regional supporters.
In a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim on Sunday, Chairman of Irans Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani pointed to the atrocities perpetrated at the hands of Takfiri terrorists in Iraq and Syria, saying, such a situation would be to the detriment of all regional states.

The Iranian official further stated that the terrorists from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) who are committing crimes against the Iraqi nation would eventually attempt to undermine the security of the countries that are today supporting them.

The governments should ignore their transient interests in regional issues and stand united in the face of terrorism, Rafsanjani added.

The Turkish envoy to Tehran also expressed concern over the escalating violence plaguing Iraq, describing the current situation in some regional Muslim countries as a bitter era in the history of Islam.

He also stressed the need for a proper political approach to dealing with the ongoing crises in the region, saying Ankaras policy is focused on negotiations with Tehran concerning issues of bilateral and regional significance.

Over the past few days, Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists, who have overrun parts of the Arab country since earlier this month and have announced a so-called Islamic caliphate.

The ISIL militancy is not limited to Iraq as the al-Qaeda-inspired group is also operating in neighboring Syria at the same time.
