Official warns against presence of foreign terrorists in the region

Tehran, July 7, IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and North African Affairs said that recent terrorist attacks in Iraq show that foreign elements are behind the attacks and warned that it may turn to an international norm if countries keep silent on the issue.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a regional tour, met with UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash on Monday afternoon and discussed with him bilateral issues and regional developments, especially Iraq.
He underlined necessity of opposition and confrontation of all countries with dangerous phenomena of terrorism and radicalism.

Expounding on Iran?s policy in Iraq, Amir-Abdollahin underlined maintaining territorial integrity, respecting national sovereignty and commitment to the Constitution as well as the results of recent elections in Iraq.

He added that Iraqi people are opposed to disintegration of the country and in this concern Iran firmly supports Iraqi government and nation in fighting against terrorism and maintaining national unity and territorial integrity.

The deputy FM said that postponing fighting against terrorism on the pretext of forming government is a mistake and will give opportunity to warmongers, so fighting against terrorism should be parallel to establishing government upon results of the parliamentary elections.

United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, for his part, said that expansion of radicalism, violence and sectarianism will be damaging for all countries of the region, adding that meetings and consultations of officials from regional countries will be the most important way to confront terrorist threats.

Anwar Gargash underlined maintaining unity and territorial integrity in Iraq and prompt formation of government in order to overcome current crisis and strengthening fight against terrorism.

He called Iran?s role in accelerating a political solution in Iraq very important.

In the meeting, UAE Assistant Foreign Minister in Political Affairs Ahmed al-Jarman and UAE Ambassador to Tehran Seif Mohammed bin Obayd al-Zabi as well as Iran?s Ambassador to the UAE Mohammad Reza Fayyaz were present, too.
