An explosion in a red granite mine in Northeastern Ardakan has killed two miners and injured three others.
ILNA reports that Yazd Province labour officials announced that the incident occurred on Monday July 7 and the injured workers are being treated for burns.
The report indicates that the cause of the fire has been determined: a dropped cigarette butt fell on explosive material in the mine.
It is estimated that a miner is killed at work every 16 days, and according to the coroners report, workplace-related deaths have increased by 11 percent in the past year.
