TEHRAN July 12 (Shana)--National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) expects to increase its gas delivery capacity to power plants to over one billion cubic meters a day by the next three years, an NIGC official said.
Hassan Montazer Torbati, director for planning of NIGC, said the hike is due to realization of upstream gas production capacity enhancement following completion of new phases of the giant South Pars gas field in southern Iran.
He said a number of the prioritized projects will be completed by the end of the current year to feed the national gas trunklines. NIGC currently delivers 0.6bcm/d to power plants which will rise to 0.8 bcm/d by the end of the next calendar year to March 2015 and finally reach 1 bcm/d by the end of 1396.
Recently, Torbati said gas delivery to power plants is rising in order to save liquid fuel for exports. The official added NIGC and National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) are cooperating on gas projects like South Pars gas field.
He said the completion of phases 15, 16 and 12 of South Pars will increase gas production by this field shared with Qatar.
