Iranian female shooter Sareh Javanmardi[/caption]Iranian female shooter Sareh Javanmardi has put on an awe-inspiring display of skills at the 2014 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Championships in Germany, and won a gold medal.
On Sunday, the 29-year-old London 2012 bronze medalist scored 195.6 in the P2 (womens 10m Air Pistol) and topped the podium at Suhl-Friedberg Shooting Center in the city of Suhl.
Krisztina David from Hungary finished in second place with 192.5 points and claimed a silver medal. Meanwhile, Macedonian athlete Olivera Nakovska-Bikova amassed 164.5 points to pick up the bronze.
Speaking after her victory, Javanmardi was confident she could maintain her composure throughout.
I started shooting seven years ago and I have gained good experience in this time to be professional in these situations, she said.
The Iranian sportswoman added, Competition, especially at the world level, can create pressure and stress for any athlete. But this pressure is the same for every athlete and I just try to manage these pressures effectively.
With this success, I will try to increase and accelerate my training to be ready to have a good result in the Incheon 2014 Para Asian Games and hopefully at Rio 2016, Javanmardi noted.
The 2014 IPC Shooting World Championships opened in the German city of Suhl on July17, and will run until July 26.
Around 300 athletes from 50 countries are competing in the championships, which features 14 individual and 14 team medal events.
The tournament is the first major international event for athletes of all nationalities following the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The last edition of the IPC Shooting World Championships was staged in the Croatian capital Zagreb in July 2010. The championships brought together a total of 246 athletes from 43 countries in 31 medal events: 17 individual and 14 team competitions.
