A senior Iranian official says Syria is moving towards peace and national reconciliation more than three years into the foreign-sponsored turmoil plaguing the Arab country.
On Sunday, Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian hailed the Syrian government and army for acting responsibly to deal with the ongoing crisis in their country, saying Syria is moving in the direction of [regaining] tranquility and national reconciliation.

Amir-Abdollahian further stated Syrian President Bashar al-Assad wants to get the opposition groups that have not used weapons against civilians on board with running the countrys affairs.

He also reiterated Irans support for a political solution to the turmoil in Syria, saying the Islamic Republic has adopted appropriate measures to help end the chaos in the Arab state.

Over 160,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions of others displaced due to the Takfiri violence gripping Syria since March 2011.

Over the past months, Syrian armed forces have gained major victories in their fight against extremist groups, inflicting heavy losses on the foreign-backed terrorists across the country.

Elsewhere in his comments, the Iranian official pointed to the fresh wave of violence fueled by the ISIL terrorist group in neighboring Iraq and said what is taking place in the country is a plot by some domestic and foreign parties.

Amir-Abdollahian added the Islamic Republic emphasizes the importance of Iraqs territorial integrity, censuring calls for the countrys fragmentation.

The ISIL militants have been wreaking havoc in Iraq and Syria at the same time.
