At least three people have been killed and several others injured in a fresh US assassination drone strike in the restive Yemeni province of Marib.
The casualties come after the drone targeted a residential area in the volatile region on Saturday.

At least two women were also wounded in the deadly attack. No details were immediately available on the victims' identities.

The drone strike targeted "three al-Qaeda militants and wounded two women," media outlets quoted a local security official as saying.

The United States often uses its assassination drones to hit sites in Yemen and some other countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Washington claims its drones target “militants,” but the facts on the ground show that civilians are frequently killed in the airstrikes.

Rights groups have criticized the drone attacks in Yemen and other countries, urging the United States to investigate the strikes which take civilian lives.

Last October, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said the US drone strikes in Yemen had led to the death of many civilians over the past years in a blatant violation of international law.

In February, the rights group called on Washington to investigate a fatal drone strike on a wedding ceremony in Yemen in December, 2013. The HRW said in a report, dubbed “A Wedding That Became a Funeral: US Drone Attack on Marriage Procession in Yemen,” that the December 12, 2013 attack killed a dozen men and wounded at least 15 others, including the bride.

Yemenis have held demonstrations on several occasions over the past months to condemn the United States for violating Yemen’s sovereignty by the drone strikes.
