Iran basketball team loses to Taiwan at William Jones Cup

Iran B national basketball team has suffered its second defeat at the 36th edition of the William Jones Cup in Taiwan, being beaten by Chinese Taipei B squad.
On Wednesday, the Iranian squad opened the match played at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei in dominant fashion to win most of the points in their way to lead at the end of the first quarter 28-23.

Iranian basketball players extended their lead into the second quarter, and managed to beat the opposite side 43-42 at the end of the first half.

After the break, Taiwanese basketball players returned to action refreshed and seemingly regained in their composure. They made optimal use of their strengths and resources in the third set, and rolled to a 21-19 win.

The Taiwanese outfit carried its momentum into the final set. Iranian sportsmen tried to close the gap but ultimately fell just short, and the Taiwanese stole an 85-75 victory.

The Iranian team will return to action on Wednesday as it plays against South Koreas Ulsan Mobis Phoebus.

Iran B basketball team defeated Egypt 65-62 in the third day of the 2014 William Jones Cup on Monday.

Meysam Mirzaei led Iran with 13 points and Haytham Khalifa scored 13 points for Egypt.

The Iranian outfit defeated Japan 79-72 at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei on Sunday.

Iran B national basketball squad dropped to Beyond Biotechnology of the United States 6470 on Saturday.

The 36th edition of the William Jones Cup opened in the Taiwanese capital Taipei on August 9, and will wrap up on August 18.

Iran B, Chinese Taipei A, Chinese Taipei B, South Koreas Ulsan Mobis Phoebus, Beyond Biotechnology of the United States, Egypt, Jordan, and Japan are taking part in the tournament.

The United States is the most successful country in William Jones Cup history with 15 titles.

Iran has won the championship four times in the past five years.
