UN Under-Secretary-General confers with DyFM

Tehran, Aug 19, IRNA UN Under-Secretary-General and Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos conferred with Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdullahian here on Monday.
In the meeting, the two sides discussed humanitarian issues in the region.
According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, Ms. Amos, referring to her efforts on the humanitarian problems in Syria, Iraq and Gaza said UN is trying to concentrate on Syrian people needs and is following up the issues without considering political problems.

She appreciated Iran?s efforts and cooperation in humanitarian affairs in Syria and added that UN tries to use capacities of influential countries in Syria with the aim of facilitating humanitarian affairs.

Referring to the UN humanitarian activities in Gaza Strip, Amos talked about existing difficulties in the way of dispatching food and medical assistance into region and said that UN is communicating with Egyptian government concerning facilitating the situation.

Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and African Affairs, for his part, underlined necessity of decreasing political issues effects on humanitarian activities.

Referring to destructive moves by terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria for relief affairs, Amir-Abdullahian said that the UN Security Council resolution 2170 against terrorist and radical groups would be able to facilitate the UN mission in humanitarian activities in Syria.

The deputy FM, by referring to human disaster in Gaza Strip, said that after bombardment of sites belonging to the UN in Gaza by the Zionist regime, it is expected that the UN reacts more seriously to the issue.

He added that Iran?s medical and food assistance is ready to be dispatched to Gaza and help of the UN in this concern is necessary.
