TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian men's national volleyball team coach, Slobodan Kovac, invited 17 players for training sessions to get his men prepared for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship.
Mir Saed Ma'roof, Alireza Nadi, Mehdi Mahdavi, Seyed Mohammad Mousavi, Farhad Zarif, Farhad Ghaemi, Amir Ghafour, Alireza Mobasheri, Pourya Fayazi, Abdolreza Alizadeh, Armin Tashakori, Milad Ebadi Pour, Shahram Mahmoudi, Adel Gholami, Saman Faezi, Hamzeh Zarrini, Reza Ghara have been called by Covac to Iran's team for 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship to be held in Poland from 30 August to 21 September 2014.
The National Iranian volleyball team ranked fourth in the FIVB 2014 World League, gaining the best title among the Asian teams which have participated in the 25-year history of the league.
The national Iranian volleyball team with its former Argentinean Head Coach Julio Velasco attended the FIVB World League for the first time in 2013 and ranked 9th.
Brazil (9 times), Italy (8 times), Russia (3 times), Cuba (one time), the Netherlands (one time), Poland (one time) and USA (two times) are the seven countries who have won the World League during its previous 24 editions. Serbia and France join as the only countries to have medaled in the past.
Meantime, Iranian athlete Saeed Ma'roof was selected as the best setter in the FIVB Men's Volleyball league, and Amir Ghafour stood at the top of the scoring charts in the Final Six with 71 points. At the end of the preliminary round earlier this month, Iranian volleyballer Mohammad Moussavi was also selected as the best defender of the FIVB 2014 Men's Volleyball premier league with 96 points.
