TEHRAN August 20 (Shana)--The number of offshore and onshore drilling rigs operated by National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) is expected to reach 95 in the near future, the NIDC chief said.
Heydar Bahmani said the number of drilling rigs is rising in response to growing demand from petroleum industry.
NIDC currently operates 74 onshore and offshore rigs, 69 of which are owned by the company.
He added that four new rigs are to be added to NIDCs fleet by March next year.
Iran is expected to become the second oil producer in the region. In light of this objective, the drilling industry shoulders a heavy responsibility and this company, which is the main drilling company in the country, is instrumental in this regard, said Bahmani.
