Tehran, Aug 30, IRNA Head of Expediency Council Strategic Research Center Ali Akbar Velayati on Saturday condemned new US sanctions, saying that they violate the Geneva deal.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with a number of Egyptian journalists, he said that as per the Geneva deal, the negotiating parties were committed not to impose new sanctions.
?We denounce new sanctions, but, they will not affect our principled stand,? he said.
?New US sanctions are condemned and we will continue our way and proceed with the talks,? Velayati said, noting that Iran?s negotiating team has shown that it will not take one step back from the nation?s legitimate rights.
The official further noted that Iran will attend the talks while persisting on its principles, one of which is the country?s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy.
No diversion has been reported in Iran?s civilian nuclear program and the head of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has regularly verified peaceful nature of the program.
?We believe in talks and continuing them; of course the other sides have no common stance regarding Iran,? he said, recalling different attitudes of Russia and China compared with other countries.
Referring to the Russian and Chinese economic ties with Iran, Velayati said that sanctions will have no impact on Iran?s economy.
The official further noted that sanctions are not something new and the countries have indicated that they do not follow US lead.
