Zahedan, Aug 31, IRNA Some 565.4 kilograms of opium was confiscated by the ant-drug squads in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, commander of provincial police said on Sunday.
Brigadier-General Hossein Rahimi said that the squads found out remnants of an armed band which was already defeated in a clash with police one month ago are attempting to smuggle drugs again.
Upon a tip-off, police took under control the road linking Saravan to Sibsouran to stop the smugglers.
In a two-hour clash with the smugglers, they left two vehicles and some ammunitions and fled away, he said, noting that some 56 packages of opium weighing 565.4 kilograms were discovered from their cars.
