Danish FM praises Irans role in countering terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Danish foreign minister praised Iran's positive role in countering terrorism in the region and renewed call for international efforts to uproot the ominous phenomenon.
Iran has always played an influential role in fighting terrorism in the region, said Martin Lidegaard.

The visiting Danish foreign minister made the remarks in a Monday meeting with Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in Tehran.

The Danish official also called for regional and international cooperation to eradicate terrorism and warned that inaction can result in unpredictable repercussions for international security and stability.

In addition to effective military actions, it is necessary to block terrorist groups access to financial resources, equipment, facilities, and manpower through international cooperation, Lidegaard added.

During the meeting, Shamkhani described terrorism as a growing threat to international stability and security and said fight against terrorism should not be politicized.

Any action in the campaign against terrorism should be sincere, genuine, based on regional potentials and cooperation, should not violate the sovereignty of countries and should be devoid of hegemonic political and security objectives, the Iranian official said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been the standard-bearer of the fight against terrorism and is currently playing the most effective role in the fight against this sinister phenomenon through backing the oppressed people of Iraq (against the Takfiri ISIL terrorists), he added.

The so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a militant group operating in Iraq and Syria which is believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

The extremist group, which controls parts of Syria's northern territory, sent its fighters into neighboring Iraq in June, quickly seizing swathes of land straddling the border between the two countries.
