Russian firms eye Iran gas pipeline projects

Tehran, Sept 20, IRNA - Russian companies have voiced their readiness to construct sixth, seventh, ninth and 11th cross-country pipelines to increase gas export, the head of National Iranian Gas Companys Investment Committee said.
Iran has signed an agreement for establishing the Iranshahr-Chabahar Gas Pipeline for supplying gas to Pakistan, Asghar Soheilipour said, noting that the implementation of the pipeline needs $700 million.
The Russian delegation will travel to Iran, he said, adding that negotiations with this Russian company will be facilitated after signing the agreement.

Soheilipour noted that the Iranian Gas Engineering and Developing Company is in charge of implementing the pipeline project. He noted that 240 kilometers of the pipeline has a diameter of 56 inches and 60 kilometers is 36-inch thick.

The sixth nationwide gas pipeline extends over 1,300 kilometers, of which the construction of 611 kilometers has been completed.

The seventh pipeline from the southwestern port city of Assalouyeh to the southeastern city of Iranshahr and from there to the Pakistani border will transfer Irans gas to Pakistan.

Currently, the Assalouyeh-Iranshahr pipeline has been implemented and $2 billion are needed to complete the 900-kilometer portion of the 56-inch diameter pipeline, he said.

Irans ninth cross-country pipeline, which is 1,863-kilometer long, will also help Iran export gas to Europe and increase Irans total gas export capacity by 110 million cubic meters per day . It will cross Assalouyeh, Ahvaz, Dehkolan and Bazargan and has 17 pressure boosting stations.

The 11th pipeline, which is 1,100 kilometers long, can transfer 110 million cubic meters of gas per day. The pipeline will begin from Assalouyeh and join the 48-inch Mashhad-Tehran pipeline after passing through the provinces of Bushehr, Fars, Yazd, Isfahan and Semnan.
